Quills have chosen to offset the emissions associated with their general operations by contributing to the World Land Trust's Carbon Balanced programme. The World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation charity, based in Suffolk, UK. Sir David Attenborough OM, CH, FRS and David Gower, OBE are patrons of the organisation. Since its foundation in 1989 WLT has been working to preserve the world's most biologically important and threatened lands, and has, so far, helped purchase and protect over 400,000 acres of threatened habitats of high biodiversity, in Central and South America, Asia, Africa and the UK. Running in parallel with its conservation land purchase activities, Carbon Balanced meets the challenge of climate change through projects that offset carbon dioxide emissions and also conserve biodiversity.
The Carbon Balanced programme is run by WLT's Restoration Ecology Team who design projects to deliver offsets (measured as tonnes of CO2 sequestered) by restoring forest and preventing deforestation. Like all WLT projects, restoration ecology projects are always managed in collaboration with local non-governmental organisations.
The Carbon Balanced programme assists organisations to complete a carbon emissions audit, calculating the emissions associated with the general operations of that business.
